Coal Miner’s Daughter

Born to a poor Kentucky family in 1932, Loretta Lynn’s rise to the top is a true rags to riches story. Her difficult upbringing was immortalized in her signature song “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, in which she describes growing up with seven siblings in a tiny cabin on a hill.

At age 15, Loretta married Oliver Vanetta Lynn and moved to the logging community of Custer, Washington. After a decade of full time motherhood, Lynn began seriously pursuing music in the 1960s. By 1967, she had a number one hit with “Don’t Come Home A ‘Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)”, which she followed up with 15 more chart topping singles and 10 number one albums.

A fearless songwriter and performer, Lynn tackled all of the major social issues of the day with her typical wit and plainspoken wisdom. Throughout her storied career, Lynn has sold over 45 million records worldwide. She has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
