It’s almost time to say a fond farewell to 2014, and the city of Gatlinburg invites you to come join thousands of others who will be celebrating with the biggest street party of the year to welcome in 2015! Several festivities are planned on New Year’s Eve, and it will all culminate with the spectacular Gatlinburg Ball Drop. Read on for everything you need to know about this Smoky Mountain tradition.
When and Where
The festivities surrounding the 27th annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show will begin in the evening hours of Wednesday, Dec. 31, on the streets surrounding the Gatlinburg Space Needle, which is located at the intersection of Parkway and Historic Nature Trail. There is no admission charge for this event.
Those attending will want to arrive early to visit the many nearby restaurants and businesses that will be offering a wide variety of celebration specials. Concessions will be available, and a live band will provide entertainment while party-goers mingle in anticipation of the big event.
When the hour reaches midnight on Jan. 1, 2015, the ball will drop, and an amazing fireworks display will take off from the roof of the 400-foot-tall Space Needle. This will be accompanied by professionally-choreographed music to enhance the experience for everyone in attendance. Rhythmic LED lights added to the Space Needle tower round out a truly gorgeous display and a wonderful way to welcome in a brand new year.
